Yamaha - Music For All - Used Percussion Still Available

Monday, August 30, 2010 by Tim Gee
If you're looking for some used concert and marching percussion equipment, we still have plenty of options for you.  Check out our list of demo/used concert and marching percussion equipment that was used at the 2010 Music For All Concert Band Festival.

Some of the key items that are still available are sets of 4 new timpani priced as used timpani.  The model is the Yamaha TP6204ACL.

We also have few of the Yamaha Grand Symphonic model concert snare drums, as well as Berlin Symphonic models.  The exact model numbers are: BSM1450SWC, GSM1450SWC, GSM1465SWC.  Again, these drums were used for just one weekend, but they are priced as used concert snare drums.

There are lots of other great deal as well.  Check out the list and please let us know if you have any questions.

Pearl Bass Drum Carriers - Priced as used.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 by Tim Gee
We just finished up reorganizing our warehouse and came across some items that we need to clearance out.  Namely, some brand new Pearl Bass drum carriers.  They are specifically the Pearl RM-MVTHMB Contour Monoposto bass drum carriers.

They have a retail price of $455.00.  We have them on clearance at $149.00 each.

In this economy buying marching percussion instruments and gear at used percussion prices is a good thing.

We found more items as well.  Keep watching the blog and the website for more updates to come this week.

Thanks for reading and happy drumming!

Some Wise Advice From Our Friends at Vic Firth

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 by Derek Felix
We get a lot of questions at Chops Percussion regarding hearing and hearing protection.  I came across this article from the Vic Firth website today and felt like this was something we need to share with all our friends in the drum world.  Whether you're involved with marching percussion, concert percussion; drum set; or world percussion; you need to reevaluate how you are personally protecting your hearing.  Please take a few minutes to read this article and if you need to make changes to how you protect your ears... don't wait!!!!

Used Marching Drums: Pearl/Eastside Fury 2010

Monday, January 25, 2010 by Tim Gee
Eastside Fury Indoor Percussion will be selling their 2010 Pearl drums through Chops Percussion again this year. The drums will be available in late April after they have been used for just a few months!  Eastside Fury is an Independent World Class marching percussion ensemble from eastern Michigan, currently in their 10th season of competition.  Chops Percussion teamed up with Pearl Drums to acquire the slightly used marching instruments. Although they were only used for a few months, and mostly just on weekends, the equipment will be greatly discounted off normal prices.  If you're looking for some great used marching percussion instruments, you can view the list here.

If you're looking for used concert instruments, you should check out the Yamaha Music For All Percussion sale list here.

Happy drumming!

2010 Music For All Yamaha Percussion Sale

Monday, January 25, 2010 by Tim Gee

2010 Music For All Yamaha Percussion SaleEvery year we get  a list of Yamaha used concert percussion equipment that will be used at the Music For All (BOA) National Festival from March 4-6. We're getting these demo instruments from Yamaha for an extra discount that you can take advantage of. These prices are below normal school bid prices for new instruments.

The items listed are more like demo models, rather than used percussion instruments.  They will only be used for 3 days, and then packed back up in the original boxes.

As a bonus, there's a free shipping offer as well.  If you purchase any of these items before the festival ends (March 6, 2010), you'll get free shipping to anywhere in the continental United States!  That's a huge savings, especially on the larger instruments.

You can find the list on our website: https://www.chopspercussion.com/run?id=8&opid=712&_tid=357

Keep your eyes posted on this blog for a future announcement of used marching percussion instruments and equipment.

PASIC 2009 News: New Yamaha Grand Series Oak Concert Toms

Friday, November 20, 2009 by Tim Gee

We had the pleasure of exhibiting at the 2009 Percussion Arts Society International Convention last week.  We didn't get to see much, but we were able to sneak out and grab a few photos of some new equipment.

One of the first things to catch our eye was the brand new Yamaha Oak Concert Toms (large picture).  Several things stood out as you walked up to them on display.  First, they're double-headed.  They also 100%, 6-ply oak, with the new YESS II mounting system.  If you're not familiar this mounting system, try this link.

Another attendee was good enough to try them out while I was standing there.  They had big, warm, powerful tones.  Very impressive.

Yamaha had the following information posted on a nearby display:
  • All oak, 6-ply shell provides a solid fundamental, powerful tone and a wide tuning range
  • Wide dynamic range is ideal for any solo or ensemble application
  • Features the unique Air Seal System, for a drum that starts round and stays round
  • YESS II mount allows increased sustain and tone without sacrificing stability
  • Dark wood stain finish gives the drum a classic, professional look
  • Available in 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16
  • Available in multiple setups with WS-855A tom stands
  • Tom stand features a ball and socket design for complete adjustment and stability
  • Stand features a lean, double-braced leg design that holds two drums without strain
We haven't received pricing information as of yet.  If you're interested, send us a quick email and we'll look into it.

Nickelback Drummer Daniel Adair To Appear @ Chops Percussion!

Monday, July 27, 2009 by Derek Felix

Daniel Adair, drummer for arguably the most popular rock band in the world, Nickelback, and widely sought-after session drummer, will be here at Chops Percussion on August 15th at 3 pm.  This is NOT a clinic.  This will be an autograph session/meet & greet.  Many thanks to Greg Zeller and the folks at Sabian Cymbals for making this happen.  For those of you that don't know; Nickelback will be performing at Verizon Wireless Music Center that evening. That means you will get a chance to meet and talk with Daniel before the concert!  This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and talk to one of the best drummers in music today.  FYI - if you haven't gotten the chance to check out Martone, the Canadian guitar virtuoso, then you need to check him out ASAP.  Daniel is the drummer in his band and gets to show off his all-world chops!  You can check out Martone at http://www.myspace.com/davemartone.  We  hope to see all of you here on August 15th.  We are expecting a lot of people, so come early and check out the store.  There will be more details, including sales on the brands that Daniel uses, so be sure to check the blog for more updates.  Thanks for reading and have a great week!

MFA Festival Gear Still Available

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 by Derek Felix
We wanted to let you all know that we still have some gear from this year's Music for All concert festival available for purchase.  You can check out the list on our website - www.chopspercussion.com.  Although we are calling this percussion equipment "used" and selling it at used percussion prices; these instruments are brand new!  The instruments were only used for three days and then shipped to us; so they have hardly been touched.  An item that makes this list more intriguing is the set of four timpani that we still have available.  If you act now; we are throwing in a 20" drum FREE - so that means you get a brand new set of five timpani for the price of a used set of four.  There are also great deals on marimbas, vibes, and chimes; so check out the list when you get a chance and call 877-900-DRUM to place your order.  Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Product Review: Pearl's New Demon Drive Pedal

Tuesday, March 31, 2009 by Derek Felix

Hello, friends.  I had stated in my previous blog that I would be talking about the drummers and drumming going on in the Indianapolis area; but I will put that on hold to do a quick product review.  The guys at Pearl were kind enough to bring me a Demon Drive double bass pedal to try out and I wanted to tell you all what I thought of it.

First - this is no ordinary bass drum pedal.  I have not felt anything quite like this under my feet before.  I'm sure you have heard some of the Pearl artists talk about their experience with the Demon Drive and I have to say that they are telling the truth.  The smooth pedal action; the zero-latency in the slave pedal; it's all true.  You can do so many things to this pedal to make it feel just right for you and once you have this thing dialed in; I don't think you'll ever want to use another pedal again.

I wish I had more time to mess with the pedal that day; but I think you could spend a couple of days making all kinds of adjustments to suit your playing style.  The pedal, which should be available in early May, will have a hefty price tag; but this honestly may be the last pedal you ever have to buy.  I will be buying one for myself as soon as I can.

I really think Pearl has hit it out of the park on this one.  Hopefully; we will have one of these in the store for you to try out when they become available.  If you haven't had a chance to check the Demon Drive out online; then please go to http://www.pearldrum.com/DemonDriveLIVE/index.html Thanks for reading and have a great week!

The Drummers of Indianapolis - A Preview

Thursday, January 29, 2009 by Derek Felix

Hello, everyone.  This blog will not be like most that you have seen from us.  There will be nothing about marching percussion, used drums, or used percussion in this blog.  What a lot of you may not realize is we are more than just a store that sells marching percussion instruments - we cover it all.  We have a great showroom that's located on 65th St, between Binford Blvd. and Allisonville Rd. on Indy's north side.  If you haven't had a chance to come check out our selection of cymbals, drum sets, and percussion accessories; then you should make it a point to come to Chops sometime in the near future.

You may have noticed my blog title; "The Drummers of Indianapolis - A Preview."  There are a lot of great drummers in the Indianapolis area and I am going to use this blog as a way of introducing them to you - our blog readers.  I will be going out to concerts, clubs, and anywhere else I can find a drummer to feature for you.  This will also be a great way to find out who's using what gear, and why they use it.  Not all of us have the money to experiment endlessly with different head combinations, stick selection, or cymbal but the insight from these drummers may help you make your next purchasing decision - just make sure that next purchase is at Chops!

If you know of a drummer in the area that should be featured - just let me know.  All will be considered.  Thanks for reading and have a great day!

The Music For All/Bands of America Concert Percussion List

Friday, January 16, 2009 by Tim Gee

Music For All National FestivalEvery year we get a list of concert percussion instruments that will be used at the Music For All National Festival.  Yamaha discounts these instruments to us and we pass along the savings to you.  This is a great way to get slightly used concert and marching percussion instruments and stands for less than school bid pricing.

Some of the keyboard instruments have been put on Multi-frames, so they'll make great marching percussion instruments as well.

The list will go out to about 400 schools and be posted on our website this Monday, January 19th.  Because you are one of the readers of this blog, you can get a sneak peek at that list right now.

These items are on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you see something you want, call Chops Percussion right away at 1.877.900.3786.

Enjoy and thanks for reading.

Drum Channel dot com

Thursday, October 23, 2008 by Tim Gee
The Drum Channel
If you haven't checked out a new site called Drum Channel, you need to go there now.  You can just tell whoever is behind this has their act together.  The site is still in Beta, but shows tremendous promise of being a site that we here at Chops Percussion will visit often.

It looks like they'll not only have videos that you can watch for entertainment/inspiration purposes, but also technique classes, master classes, and drum lessons (both free and for purchase).

Another cool feature that we noticed was during the video playback of the Jimmy Cobb Spotlight.  Imagine Jimmy Cobb sitting around chatting about his days with  Miles Davis with fellow drummers like Jeff Hamilton and Peter Erskine.

Anyway, they have this cool thing happening on the far right side while the video is playing.  They use this space to help you keep up with any references or lingo that's being mentioned while the video is playing.  Subtle little details that you may not know that help the video be that much more informative.  You can click here to see a large view of what I'm talking about.

Tony Royster Jr., Chad Smith, Zappa Drummer's round table, and the previously mentioned Jimmy Cobb interview are all up there right now.  It also looks like coverage of the Buddy Rich Memorial concert is coming soon.

I guess the quote from Neil Peart on the site sums it up the best: "A new horizon for the interchange of drummers' ideas, education, music and conversation."

Used Yamaha Oak Custom Drums

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 by Tim Gee
Used Drums - Yamaha Oak CustomsWe've got a used drum set in stock that we can't believe is still sitting here.

It's a 5-piece Yamaha Oak Custom that was used by I2 Percussion for one indoor marching season in 2006-2007.

The oak shells create a unique sound that is sharp and aggressive. That's why you've seen this kit being advertised with a lot of "heavy hitters" in Modern Drummer and other magazines. They can take the pounding and deliver a huge, powerful sound.

I2 upgraded the heads with Evans all around. Hydraulics on the toms, G1 Coated on the snare and an E-MAD on the bass batter side.

The package price includes several pieces of the famous Yamaha hardware: see the list below for full details.
